In 1834, Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy and Amichand Shah created an animal shelter where Bombay’s stray dogs and pigs could find refuge from the British government’s ruthless culling. Panjrapole is a hidden nook amongst the temples at Bhuleshwar and today houses cows (who have names), stray dogs, donkeys, hens, goats, and ducks. For folk looking for refuge from the frenetic city, it will welcome you into its sanctuary with birdsong and the gentle lowing of cattle.
