Indigo is the colour of intuition and perception. Spiritually, it promotes deep concentration during times of introspection and meditation, helping you achieve deeper levels of consciousness and to open the third eye. It is a colour which relates to the “New Age”- the ability to use the Higher Mind to see beyond the normal senses with great powers of perception, where one relies on intuition rather than gut feeling.
In the contemporary world, across cultures, people fall in love with this colour making it relevant in all seasons, in all spaces, and for all personalities. This is what makes it truly remarkable ! Especially considering Indigo is an ancient, ambiguous colour, one whose ties with India and its history, run deeper than we know.
In comparison to other dyes, artisans all over speak of Indigo differently, as though it is living, breathing and co-existing with human life. The dye makers compare the vat to a child that needs to be taken care of, fed often, maintained closely, and loved, as it proceeds to evolve into the perfectly hued dye.
For No-Mad, we have wanted to work with natural Indigo for a while now. We found an amazing partner in Colors of Nature, a Pondicherry based company dealing with natural dyes for over 25 years now. Khadi was another material very close to our heart and the idea of combining natural indigo and Khadi was very exciting We added the magic of mirror embroidery from Kutch to hand-spun hand-woven Khadi from Bengal, creating a special product inspired from here and elsewhere…The No-Mad INDIGO Collection, a limited series, coming soon !
